Black Tern
Chlidonias niger
Synopsis:
Breeds in loose colonies along lakes mainly in eastern Oregon.
Notable records are from Sherman, Morrow, Baker,
and Malheur Counties (not confirmed), as well as Lane (Fern Ridge) and Linn
(east of Corvallis) Counties. A 1999 nesting in Polk
County (at Baskett Slough National Wildlife Refuge) is particularly notable.

Relative Detectability:
Easy to spot, but nesting is somewhat difficult to
confirm.
Challenge:
Attempt to confirm breeding at new locations, away from
traditional locations.
